The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has released an update to the annual fee imposed on certain health plans, from $2.39 to $2.45, calculated based on the average number of lives covered.

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Fee, mandated by the ACA*, is paid by insurance carriers for fully-insured plans, and by the employer or plan sponsor for self-funded plans. Plans primarily designed for employees outside the United States, and plans which are considered an excepted benefit are not subject to the fee.

Fee Schedule

Plan years ending between January and September 2018: $2.39
Plan years ending between October and December 2018: $2.45
